In the hoop Scrappy Hexagon Coasters and Potholders
This Scrappy Hexagon Coaster Set is the perfect scrap-buster project! ✂️
I created this design as a way to use up all the jelly roll strips I’d collected over the years, but you can use any fabric scraps you like.
Each coaster can feature up to 13 different fabrics (or fewer, depending on your look), making it a fun and creative way to play with color and pattern.
With 5 sizes included, the smaller sizes are perfect for coasters, the larger sizes can be used as potholders, and if you have a 10x16 hoop, you can even make a 10 by 12 inch placemat — all in one hooping.
This makes it easy to stitch a complete matching set, whether as a thoughtful gift or a quick update to your kitchen décor.
Made using the simple stitch-and-flip method, the set comes with full step-by-step photo instructions plus a video tutorial to guide you through.
These coasters are completed with an envelope back,
Why the Envelope Back?
When I tested the 5x7 size with a traditional single backing fabric and turning gap, I discovered it took me longer to turn the coaster than to stitch it!
Using an envelope back solves this problem completely — no more struggling to turn small pieces right-side out. As a bonus, the envelope opening can double as a back pocket (just like our potholder designs).
If you’d prefer a fully closed back, simply secure the overlapping flaps with a piece of double-sided tape or a few quick hand stitches.
